Understand we are using math to teach math. The first focus is addends, then multiplication. Fractions teach multiplication. So do percentages. Algebra teaches multiplication and the puzzles are fun. Learning trough purposeful play.

Base 10 blocks are powerful tools, they make presenting basic math concepts easy and fun. Unfortunately too many teachers use them for counting, place value, and not much else.  i show you how to integrate algebra into your lessons from the get-go and have fun doing it.  One the basic tenets is teach by example. This website is an example of teaching by example by giving examples that teach you how to teach by example unburdened by what has been.

Basic base ten block training for you, so you can feel comfortable knowing that "even though" they are having fun, they are learning math too.  On the next page you'll learn the basics on how to use your base 10 blocks, not just how to use your base ten blocks but why we are using base ten blocks.. There is a saying: it's not what you say but how you say it.  Learn how to present math concepts all in under 4 hours, depending on which training you take. i show you the method in action on this website. Example is the lesson. Learn how to teach math, or more aptly how to PLAY math by watching me do it. Example IS the lesson.  How do i teach you how to teach by example if without teaching by examples. And these are just examples. Your play time is going to go differently. You want your son or daughter to play the same as you see in the videos? Thats preposterous! They don't play the same. 

The fact that you are here means you are waking up to the fact that there is no bulk education. NO-SUCH-THING. There is bulk indoctrination, which is what most of you are used to and went through. Worse, it was trauma based indoctrination.

There are people making a living now as self styled Math Psychiatrists, healing people, particularly girls of their math anxiety, which is trauma caused by the purposefully horrible math instruction purveyed by the "public school system".  

My mother told me on more than one occasion "teaching is a sacred trust". The mathematics reveals the truth. The mathematics brings peace. No one has ever gone to war over a math equation. It's either "right" or it isn't.  You can prove you are right and maybe even show them where they are wrong. A true mathematician will thank you for it. You trust what they are teaching you is true and correct. The mathematics is the truth. So maybe, just maybe, they don't want to teach truth in the empire of lies.

Base 10 blocks are effective for many reasons.

It should be obvious that dyslexic kids love them. They love them because it doesn't matter whether you look at the blocks from the top or the bottom...backwards or forwards. Once i had a booth at a fair and i had a mirror over my table like they do in cooking shows...And it dawned on a few parents that if they could understand what i was doing by looking in the mirror above me, it wouldn't matter to their children if it was upside down and backwards either.  i mention this because one of the people that came to the training you are about to watch worked with dyslexic students.

If you are familiar with mind maps, it should be visually obvious that this method creates associations between pictures and symbols in mathematics in your mind.  The blocks allow you to decode mathematical symbols as easily as you read English.  The three squiggly lines you see there are decoded and an image comes up in your mind. Before this 

x² + 3x + 2 didn't bring an image up in your mind's eye. All you saw were the symbols.  Imagine trying to understand a story about cows  without ever seeing a cow. "Chair" also starts with "C" and has four legs. Things could get confusing very quickly if you've never seen either one. The same way things got confusing in algebra when you had no pictures to go with the symbols.  Get it?

Putting the pictures back in makes all the difference.

Math is easy when you can SEE it. At Crewton Ramone's House of Math we use base 10 blocks throughout. Algebra is a cinch when you can see it. Complex math concepts become child's play. Literally.

All we are doing here is putting the pictures back in to go along with the symbols so you have a uniform methodology for visualizing the math.  Now you know what x² + 3x + 2 LOOKS like. 

This training shows you how to do all of this and more, but the most important part is that you have an enjoyable time doing it.  Play with purpose. Joy opens the way for knowledge. Hence the endorphins your glands excrete when you have an "ah-ha!" moment. 

One of the comments i get from trainings consistently is they cannot believe how much time has gone by...time flies when you are having math that is engaging and fun because you are using base ten blocks. 

This is a three hour and 45 minute training--it won't feel like it. Time flies when you're having math. Base 10 blocks make the experience enjoyable and fun if you do it right. Basically we're going to play with base 10 blocks, & learn a lot of math while we do it.  You are going to watch.  By watching you start to learn.  But you have do math to learn math and you learn math by doing math. There is no other way. Play along. Build the problems with your hands. Think about the tasks and questions you can give them.

Think of all the things to count in "the temple of tens".  The hundreds are 10 tens and super easy to count.  The multi tens roof is easy to count make hundreds, (90 + 10) + (80 + 20) + (60 + 40) which leaves the (50 + 30)...380..look at all those layers of 10. And no kidding after this the child that built this knew his addends for 10, without thinking about it, which made multiplication and subtraction fast and easy, which makes division easy.

Here is a short video showing you how to use blocks to teach math concepts.  As you can see they don't have to be Mortensen Math blocks. Manipulatives are effecting for purveying basic math concepts to your pupils. Some base ten blocks are better than others. Jerry endeavored to make his the best, so that he was proud to put his family's name on the box. i've used many different kinds of manipulatives in 35 years, if i'd found better ones i'd be using those. i have been gifted all manner of math manipulatives over the years. His are the Rolls Royce of manipulatives. Made by a clinician who worked hands on with children, later he got feed back from hundreds of distributors who doubled as math teachers. Improvements were made over decades. 

For universality in presenting concepts there are none better, you don't need all those specialized manipulatives. They are great to have but you don't need them. You can teach almost all of it with a combo kit. Couple of multi-tens make things more efficient, which speeds things up but you can get by without them. i show you how to use your blocks. Counting through pre-calculus.  No excuses. 

Use your imagination and build your own ships, or trucks, or planes, or space ships or designs.  Build stuff count it. This can be free time or the lesson. It is an example of what a bright child can do when given the freedom to build something. Some of them have a hard time because they have been damaged by screen time. This is an example of what is possible.  Build your own.
